It could be said that 2020 was the year when everything hit rock bottom. The world was ravaged by a virus that caused untold damage both economically and socially. We were all put in a position where all the freedoms we had previously taken for granted were increasingly curtailed. While some countries were able to fare fairly well, all things considered equal, other countries seemed to do an impression of a car with no brakes gong headlong down a steep hill - all while the driver was preoccupied with their phone. So why did some countries so spectacularly fail?
2020 was also the year that turned a once great country into a circus sideshow, with the worst President in U.S. history refusing to accept his loss and currently making every seditious and treasonous attempt to steal a victory by inflaming his somewhat militant ‘conspiracy theorist’ base and the seditious political party that he represents. Right now, America is on the verge of tipping into a banana republic as Donald Trump acts increasingly unhinged and threatens to deepen the divide and utterly destroy democracy just in order to feed his fragile ego. If you are ever after a greater understanding of this monstrous man then I strongly recommend reading Mary. L. Trump’s book: ‘Too Much and Never Enough: How my family created the world’s most dangerous man’ as it really gives you an insight into how that man ticks and the extraordinary levels of psychological damage inflicted upon him by his father, Fred. It really is no surprise that Donald is so monumentally unfit to lead a company, never mind a country.
Of course very little changed in actuality between December 31st and January 1st - the world is still being ravaged by that virus, and the grave threat that Donald Trump and his sycophantic followers continue to pose is still very real. So is 2021 going to be any different? Well, the start of 2021 represents hope, not false hope (check a previous FYI/ASK resource for understanding the difference). Hope lies in the fact that Joe Biden will be inaugurated on the 20th January ushering in a more unified, inclusive and healing approach to governing a country. President Joe Biden is a leader who understands the need to build bridges with other countries and mend the damage that his predecessor caused - he is a man who puts his faith in science, not extreme-right message boards.
With regards COVID-19, the world is now in a position to initiate a global vaccine rollout which hopefully will see the world slowly return to a degree of normality - even if it is a somewhat new vision of normal.
