The latest FYI/ASK sheet takes on a subject that is close to my heart, that of mentorship. I was lucky to have had a great mentor in the early stages of my career. I learned a great deal from my time spent with her, lessons that I still put into practice today.
In simple terms, mentoring involves helping other individuals in the development of their career, skills and expertise, often drawing on your own experiences in the process. Don’t confuse mentoring with managing or coaching. Mentoring is a long term process founded on mutual trust and respect and is focused on creating an informal association between mentor and mentee. Coaching on the other hand is generally for a short period of time and follows a more structured and formal approach. This weeks resource sheet explores and explains the mentor/mentee relationship and advises a number of techniques and strategies that make this relationship the most productive it can be.
